The Mothership Residency

You are invited to apply to be our guest at The Mothership. The Visual Artist Residency is a 5-day stay in an amazing  space that ends in an optional 1-day pop-up show in the gallery space, often accompanied with a live music event or other performance. Residents may perform as well. Located in the heart of Woodstock, NY with a Baldwin parlor grand piano, it is a two minute walk to the center of town and the bus from NYC. Artists are exposed to a rich and diverse community of artists, musicians and poets. Woodstock is also a vibrant spiritual hub and home of The beautiful KTD Tibetan Buddhist Monastery in addition to many smaller studios and practitioners. The Shivastan bookstore is located behind the gallery and frequently hosts poetry readings. The residency is a community oriented, laid-back experience in very comfortable lodgings.

Because of the short length of the residency, artists are required to bring existing work or be able to create work there if they decide to do an optional show. Creating work is ideal for performances because there is not a studio space that can accommodate for messy mediums, such as painting or sculpture. There are no expectations of creating work other than providing an optional pop-up show on Saturday and leaving on Sunday. Artists may perform music. Guests are encouraged to explore Woodstock's vibrant community of artists, install their show, and enjoy their free time. The entire town is within walking distance from the Mothership, including bars, restraints, parks, grocery stores, and shops.

The residency is free upon acceptance. No stipend or additional funding is provided at this time. Bedroom, shared living/gallery/kitchen space, and bathroom are provided.
